What are frames are and how to create your own frame

Please watch the video below that demonstrates how to create a frame and what are frame layouts in the L Squared Hub.

Here are some Tips & Tricks to use as a refresher from the video:

Frame Layouts Overview

  • Purpose:
    • Frame layouts divide your screen into multiple frames, each capable of displaying unique content and running on its own schedule.
    • Important to consider the size of frames to ensure content fits and looks its best.

Accessing Frame Layouts

  • Location:
    • Available in the L Squared Hub's left menu under the "Frame Layouts" tab.
  • Categories within Frame Layouts:
    • Frame Layouts Tab:
      • Displays all layouts you've created.
    • Frame Layout Assignment:
      • Shows layouts assigned to a device for a specific date range.
    • Unapproved Frame Layouts:
      • Contains layouts created by users without approval rights; these require admin approval before assignment.
    • Incomplete Frame Layouts:
      • Stores layouts without any frames.
    • Library Tab:
      • Contains pre-designed frame layouts that can be imported for use.

Assigning Frame Layouts to Devices

  • Initial Setup:

    • When registering a new device with the L Squared Hub, it must be assigned to a frame layout to organize scheduled content.
    • Options:
      • Create a custom layout or choose one from the Frame Layout Library.
  • Importing and Using a Layout:

    • Navigate to the library tab within the "Frame Layouts" section.
    • Layouts are organized by the number of frames.
    • Select the desired layout and click "Use Frame Layout," then confirm by clicking "Yes."
    • The imported frame layout is ready for assignment to a device.
  • Assignment Process:

    • Click on the desired layout and select "Assign" to open the assignment wizard.
    • Provide a name for the assignment and select the date range (usually set to "Forever").
    • Choose the device(s) and click "Save."

Content Scaling and Aspect Ratio

  • Automatic Scaling:
    • Scheduled content will automatically scale to fit the assigned frame.
    • Aspect Ratio Considerations:
      • If the content's aspect ratio differs from the frame's aspect ratio (e.g., square content in a rectangular frame), filler colors may appear on the sides.
    • Ensure the content's aspect ratio matches the frame's aspect ratio for proper scaling.

Creating a Custom Frame Layout

  • Steps:
    • Click "Create New Frame Layout" in the first tab.
    • Name your layout and choose the screen orientation (usually landscape).
    • Select the screen resolution (e.g., 1920x1080 for 1080p).
    • Note: Higher resolutions may require special media players; consult L Squared support for creating layouts with higher resolutions or video walls.
    • Assign the newly created frame layout to a device.
